La Bouzule - Meurthe-et-Moselle

La Bouzule
La Bouzule is one of the historical sites associated to SOERE PRO where OR spreading was stopped

La Bouzule has been initiated in 1996

La Bouzule is a long-term experimental device whose objectives are to evaluate the ecotoxicology of waste application on agrosystem to soil, waters, plants and the food chain in a framework close to current regulatory practices.

In addition, a soil biological status was realized 10 years after the end of the spreads as part of a ADEME Vadebio project (Long Term Effects of Biosolid Applications on Soil Biological Parameters, 2010-2013).

The field experimental design is a complete randomized block experiment (4 blocks, parcels of 40 m²) with the following treatments :

  • Urban sludge (B1), minimal N mineral fertilization
  • Dehydrated sewage sludge (B2), minimal N mineral fertilization
  • Composted sludge with green waste (B3), minimal N mineral fertilization
  • Composted sludge with green waste (B3.1) + organic pollutants, minimal N mineral fertilization
  • Composted sludge with green waste (B3.2) + metal pollutants, minimal N mineral fertilization
  • Paper suldge (B4), minimal N mineral fertilization
  • Combustion ashes (C1), minimal N mineral fertilization
  • Composted residual household waste (C2), minimal N mineral fertilization
  • Control: minimal N mineral fertilization (Tb)
  • Control: high fertilization (Th)

Site management

The crop succession until 2012 was rapeseed / wheat / maize.

Pedo-climatic context

Redoxic calcisol (marbled calcium brown soil) on silty veneers

  • Initial state of the soil layer: 0-25 cm : pH 7.5 ; 2.9 % OM ; 30.5% clays, 57.5% silts, 12% sands
  • Climate type : oceanic gradient with continental influence
  • Average annual temperature = 10 °C
  • Average annual rainfall = 763 mm
