"Microdensity profiles, genetic variation and phenotypic plasticity of wood density in two eucalyptus species planted in Argentina"

Host : Philippe Rozenberg - INRA

Mobilité Pamela Alarcon

In coincidence with the mid-term meeting of the TOPWOOD project, Ing. Pamela Alarcon from INTA Concordia (Argentina) starts a two months secondment at INRA Val de Loire-Orléans.

Pamela is involved in Work Package 1 “High throughput phenotyping of wood quality”. During her secondment, she will obtain microdensity profiles and estimate the genetic variation and the phenotypic plasticity of wood density in two eucalyptus species planted in Argentina (E. grandis and E. viminalis). Pamela will study two major groups of traits, growth and wood density, their relation with climate and their genetic variability. The first group of traits affect economic yields and is highly sensitive to environmental changes (soil, climate and silvicultural management). The second group of traits, wood density variables calculated from microdensity profiles, provide indirect information about functional processes such as water transport along the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum.
