Workpackage 3

WP3

Screening for PPV resistant Prunus material

WP3 has the three-fold objectives of selecting mutants affected in susceptibility genes, eliminating the transgenes and testing the mutant lines for resistance to sharka.

PPV resistance is critical to sustainable stone fruit production. In WP1, we focus on editing susceptibility genes. In WP2, we will work on implementing a rapid cycling breeding system so that we can accelerate the selection of transgene-free, mutant lines as produced in WP1. In the third work package, we will concentrate on the generation, characterization, and recovery of edited Prunus lines (plantlets). Such promising Prunus lines will then be tested experimentally for resistance to sharka, following a well-established protocol as described in (Mariette et al., 2016).
