CASE 5 - Completely white ears. At least one part of the plant is desiccated or on the way to becoming desiccated

  • The plant is easy to uproot. The roots are black and necrosed. The necrosis can reach the crown (or neck). The white ears are grouped in foci of increasing size. The stems are more or less shortened: symptoms are due to Take-all.
  • Attack of the base of the plants in dry conditions, above all in sandy soil: symptoms are due to Fusarium root rot
  • Attack of the roots in very humid soil, generally in winter. The attack does not reach the crown. The roots break at the necrosed parts when the plant is uprooted. Not frequent: symptoms are due to Rhizoctonia root rot or Pytium root rot
