WP4.1 : Characterisation of interactions within the biocenosis and between this biocenosis and its biotope for innovative agrosystems

The overall objective of this task is to analyse the effect of innovative cropping systems on the biological interactions among various components of the biocenosis and between these components and their biotope.

Three contrasted agricultural innovations have been selected in order to cover a wide range of possible changes in the biological dynamics in cultivated fields: mixed cropping, simplification of tillage, and low input cropping systems.

They match with the three following sub-tasks:

• Sub-task 4.1.1:Impact of planned biodiversity on the regulation of pests in pea-wheat fields

• Sub-task 4.1.2: Analysis of soil tillage simplification on primary inoculum production of various sunflower pathogens

• Sub-task 4.1.3: Analysis of biological dynamics in low input cropping systems

For the three case studies, the spatial scale considered experimentally is the field and its borders, even though it is obvious that biological interactions exist at larger scales.

The temporal scale of sub-task 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 is the cropping season whereas sub-task 4 .1.3 considers crop successions over several years.

The knowledge produced in the task 4.1 will help diagnose how the studied innovations impact biodiversity and/or how they can contribute to the design of cropping systems less dependent on pesticides.
