Contribute and access data

What is the IRBAS database and why contribute to it?

1. What is the IRBAS database and why support it ?

The Intermittent River Biodiversity Analysis and Synthesis project collates data on the biodiversity and ecology of intermittent rivers* across the world. The IRBAS database integrates and provides free access to these data, contributing to the growing, and global, knowledge base on these ubiquitous and important river systems.

This interface to the IRBAS database serves as a data portal and data discovery tool, facilitating the synthesis and analysis of data to elucidate patterns in intermittent river biodiversity.

Help build a global hub for data on the biodiversity and ecology of intermittent rivers
IRBAS invites you to help build the IRBAS database by making your data available through the data portal. Contributing your data to the IRBAS database will create high visibility for your dataset and facilitate collaborations. In addition, full source and citation details for your dataset will always be available for users consulting your data.

Registered users of the database can contribute data and interact with the database (e.g. perform queries and extract data). To register, go to the Login page (see the link in the left hand panel), then follow the steps outlined in the 'How to contribute' and 'Exploring the database' pages, and you'll soon be on your way!

*For the purposes of the IRBAS project and IRBAS database, intermittent rivers are defined as those with non-perennial surface flow, and include rivers commonly described as discontinuous, ephemeral, intermittent, seasonal, temporary, etc. The IRBAS database houses biodiversity and ecological data on these systems (and their nearby perennial counterparts), facilitating data storage, extraction, synthesis and analysis.

IRBAS funding and supporting organisations: In the context of the CESAB(link is external) project “Intermittent River Biodiversity Analysis and Synthesis”, IRBAS research is supported by the French Foundation for Research on Biodiversity (FRB(link is external)) and the French National Agency for Water and Aquatic Environments (ONEMA(link is external)) and the French National Institute of Science and Technology for the Environment and Agriculture (IRSTEA(link is external)). The IRBAS database is supported by BioFresh(link is external).

Impotant information on liability: The IRBAS database has been set up to attempt to ensure the accuracy and currency of the information provided on this website and in the database. Nevertheless, it is not possible to fully exclude errors and ambiguities. IRBAS does not therefore provide any guarantee of the currency, accuracy, completeness or quality of the information provided. IRBAS does not accept any liability for material or immaterial losses resulting directly or indirectly from the use or non-use of the information presented or through the use of erroneous and incomplete information. IRBAS reserves the right to change, supplement or delete parts of or the entire website without notice or to suspend it temporarily or permanently.
