Provide light-weight cutting-edge instrumentation

Provide light-weight cutting-edge instrumentation

Provide light-weight cutting-edge instrumentation (for example, to continuously measure atmospheric and edaphic variables) in order to better describe, over long periods of time, environmental forcing factors beyond our control

The extent of the networks makes it unrealistic to install instrumentation at each site or to cover all the tested parameters, even if costs could be kept low. In-Sylva’s approach is therefore to:

  • Describe the ecological parameters of the sites included in scientific objectives.
  • Set up instruments at approximately one hundred sites (below-canopy microclimate, soil humidity / temperature…) to foster inter-disciplinary projects at those sites (ecophysiology, dendrometry, genetics).
  • Collaborate with the national infrastructure, ANAEE-F, to use its portable field labs (ex. M-POETE) and new on-board technologies (airborne and terrestrial Lidar, infra-red spectrometry, etc…) at a greater number of sites.
