FLEXIBI

Partners

The FLEXIBI consortium consists in 6 academic partners located in 4 European countries: France, Belgium, Germany and Finland. These countries present a large diversity of context that can offer contrasted biomass availability, local economic systems and opportunities for case studies implementation. The consortium FLEXIBI displays multidisciplinary and complementary skills to tackle the three main strategies needed to fulfil FLEXIBI achievements.

INRA, Biopolymers, Interactions and Assemblies (INRA, France, Coordinator) (https://www6.angers-nantes.inra.fr/bia_eng/). BIA Unit's researches focus on the sustainable transformation of plant biomass for food and non-food applications. In the framework of Flexibi, INRA BIA will be involve in knowledge engineering  and modeling, experimental assesment of chemical en enzymatic biorefinery, coordination an dissemination.

University of Hamburg (UHH, Germany)

The department of chemical wood technology of the institute for wood science (University Hamburg) combines research in the fields of science and engineering for the sustainable utilization of lignocellulosic biomass for innovative materials, platform chemicals and bioenergy. The team focuses on research on bio refineries, biopolymers and pulp and paper production. Main task within FLEXIBI will be the optimization of the fractionation of under-valorized biomass waste materials by steam refining. Subsequently, the different fractions will be investigated for use in high-value applications (e.g. fibers, tensides, nano fibrils).
