COV3ER: Composés organiques volatiles biogéniques (COVB)


Benjamin LOUBET

Benjamin LOUBET is researcher at INRA since 2000. He had a PhD on Modelling NH3 dry deposition in the vicinity of sources, and an Habiliation à diriger les recherches on pollutants and particulate matter exchange between terrestrial ecosystems and the atmosphere. He leads the team Eco&Phy in the  ECOSYS research station

His main topic of research is atmospheric dispersion of gaseous pollutant and particulate matter at the local scale and exchange of pollutant and GHG between the atmosphere and agricultural ecosystems. He is a specialist in measurement and modelling of reactive trace gases between the atmosphere and the terrestrial ecosystems (NH3, O3, NOx) an turbulent dispersion of these compounds. He has been involved in many European projects (NitroEurope, Graminae, Eclaire, Ingos) and has coordinated several national projects (PPTA, ADEME Primequal ; POLLEN, INSU, review on Particulate emissions from agriculture, ADEME). He is now the scientific PI of the ICOS long term observation site of Grignon (FR-GRI).

Valérie GROS

She is an atmospheric scientist at CNRS. She received her Ph.D. in 1998 at LSCE on the experimental study of ozone and carbon monoxide at Amsterdam Island (French austral island). Between 1999 and 2004, she worked at the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry in two different groups (isotope group and organic reactive species group). She has participated in many international field campaigns including AEROBIC, MINATROC, UTOPIHAN, HOHPEX, OOMPH and a summer campaign at Amsterdam Island. She is author or co-author of more than 20 peer-reviewed publications. She got a CNRS permanent position in 2004 and is now working at the LSCE studying volatile organic compounds and their impact on the oxidising capacity of the troposphere and on aerosol formation. She leads the French young researcher ANR program “AEROCOV”, on interaction of VOCs and secondary organic aerosols in megacities.

Michael STAUDT

He is an plant ecophysiologist at the CEFE laboratory and more specifically on emission of volatile organic compounds from plants and the underlying processes.  


He is an engineer in ecophysiology and environmental physics at the ESE laboratory in charge of the ICOS FR-BAR forest site in the Île-de-France region.


Lais is a PhD student at INRA ECOSY studying VOC emissions from crops and their daily and seasonal dynamics.  


Sandy is a PhD student at the LSCE laboratory studying OH reactivity above ecosystems and its links with the VOC concentrations.  


Julien is young post-doctorate in atmospheric chemistry, specialist of secondary organic aerosol formation, VOCs and eddy-covariance fluxes of reactive trace gases (O3, VOCs, heat and CO2). He is participating in 2018 field campaigns in Grignon and Puechabon.


Nora freshly ended her PhD studies in atmospheric chemistry at LSCE and Univerisitè Paris Sud in the analysis of reactive gas volatiles through measurements of the atmospheric property of the OH reactivity. Her thesis focused on the automation, validation and deployment of the PTR-MS based comparative reactivity method for conducting field measurements of OH reactivity at key sites in the Mediterranean region, with special emphasis for sites influenced by biogenic emissions. She continued as a post-doctoral scientist at LSCE, and dedicated to the study of crops volatiles with the project COV3ER.


Raluca Ciuraru is a young researcher at INRA since 2017. She has a PhD in atmospheric chemistry. Her researches focus on chemical reaction at the soil-vegetation-atmosphere interface, especially looking into secondary organic aerosol formation linked with agricultural practices in interactions with ozone. 

S Genermont-3

Sophie Génermont is a researcher at INRA since 1997. She is Engineer of Agronomy in Bioclimatiology and has a PhD in Physics and atmospheric chemistry. Her research focus is on ammonia volatilisation from field after application of organics or mineral fertiliser. She has developed field wind tunnel systems for comparing treatments such as application methods. She is also developing a laboratory system based on small chambers for the screening of volatilisation from several fertiliser and soil conditions. She is one of the developers of the Volt'air process-based volatilisation model for ammonia which is used at the national scale. She is involved in many French and European projects focussing on fertilisation or/and atmospheric pollution. She coordinates national projects (Volat Standard, Cadastre NH3, Amp’Air).

Training: Phd in Physics and atmoepheric chemistry, Ingenior of Agronomy in Bioclimatiology.


Raia Sylvia Massad is researcher at INRA Grignon since 2010. She has a PhD on Ammonia compensation point and leaf nitrogen cycling modelling in crops.

Her main topic of research is on modelling green house gases (N2O, CO2, CH4) and pollutants (NH3, NO) emissions from arable ecosytems in relation with ecosystem management and climate and couple ecosystem models (CERES-EGC) with atmospheric transport and chemistry models. She has been a post-doctorate fellow at CEH Edinburgh where she has been developing NH3 bi-directional exchange parameterisations for use in large chemistry and transport models.

Alain Fortineau is an assistant engineer [AF1] at INRA Grignon where he started in 1999. He has a degree in environmental engineering.

His role consists in characterizing environmental conditions (temperature, hygrometry, light spectral quality) within crop systems (microclimat and phylloclimat) and photosynthesis parameters (Li-6400).
