A strain deposit in CIRM-BIA

The main mission of CIRM-BIA is to offer the greatest strains diversity for research to the scientists, academics or industrials. In this purpose, we permanently enlarge our collection by targeted collects, collection repatriations, research programs and deposit strains.


A strain deposited in the CIRM-BIA, it is a perennial conservation for the interest strain(s) like type strains, sequencing strains, published strains,...). For this:




  • The depositor contacts CIRM-BIA via or by phone to +0033 (0)
  • The depositor transmits all information on the strain(s) concerning its identity, characterization, origin, all data collected in the acquisition form.
  • The depositor is informed that CIRM-BIA is a collection of food bacteria whose the missions are to preserve strains and associated data which are deposited. Strains will be public and available for scientific community for research, development, teaching, identification.
  • According to strains data, the CIRM-BIA validates the entry in open collection.
  • The depositor allows : 1- Distribution of the strain(s) (with a MTA issued by CIRM-BIA according the ECCO core-MTA :, and 2- Research and characterization done on this/these strain(s).
  • The depositor is informed that if commercial applications were obtained issued from research conducted on the strain(s), a fair and equitable return will be provided to the DEPOSITOR based on the current APA regulations.
  • The acquisition form is validated and an unique identifyer is attributed (CIRM-BIA n°).
  • After reception of the strain(s) and the signed acquisition form, purity checking is done and strain(s) is/are freezed and dry-freezed.
  • A certificat of deposit is sent to the depositor with 2 vials of the dry-freezed strain(s).
  • The strain(s) are entered in the collection and visible on the online catalogue (
  • The CIRM-BIA is a collection of Food bacteria whose missions are to preserve strains and associated data before to diffuse them to the scientific community for research, development, teaching or identification.
  • For an open deposit, the CIRM-BIA becomes the DEPOSITARY of the strain(s) but never the owner. If commercial applications are obtained from research using the strain(s), a fair and equitable return will be provided to the DEPOSITOR based on the current APA regulations.
  • The open deposit of strain to the CIRM-BIA is free, however the CIRM-BIA can refuse strain deposit on the basis of the originality of the strains, quality of their characterization or other reason (not food interest, particular culture conditions, …)
  • A safe deposit is also proposed in our services. In this case, the strain doesn’t appear in the oneline catalogue. This service will be charge. For your convenience, the Confidential Safe deposit contract may allow restricted access to some of your partners, according to the terms and conditions defined by you as applicant.
